"How I Met Your Mother", S. 1; Ep. 7

In this week's Episode, Ted goes to a matchmaker to help him find his perfect and compatible woman. He is very skeptical going, so Barney tricks him to get him there. Barney of course wants to go to the matchmaker just to find another woman to sleep with. The matchmaker tells Ted that there are potentially only 8 woman who would be compatible with him, so he pays her to find them. But unfortunately the matchmaker cannot find a women for him, there is one but she is already in a relationship. Out of desperation and possibly the loss of hope, Ted steals the only woman's information to meet her in hopes that he will make an impression. He makes an appointment to see her, and asks her out but unfortunately she is getting married. He gets a call from the woman about the results of the mole on his back, but he takes it as though she wants to go out with him, but again he is disappointed. Ted goes back to see the matchmaker, and tells her of the hope he has of finding the one for him, and she should keep searching for someone for him.
Marshall and Lily find out that there is a little creature living in their apartment. This creature is a mix of a cock roach and a mouse. No one believes them so they set up a trap to catch it. Robin finally sees the creature and they through it out the window.
The themes I saw in this episode, is a story theme, and a theme of hope. This whole TV show is based on Ted telling his children how he met their mother. And I saw the theme of hope because of Ted's persistent hope in finding the woman that was made for him. He went to see a matchmaker who would help him find the woman for him. After searching, the matchmaker tells Ted the unfortunate news, that she could not find anyone for him. Ted goes back and has a conversation with the matchmaker, telling her to keep looking, even though she cant find any match now doesnt mean that there is no one out there for him. When questioned about why he wants her to keep searching, he tells her that he believes and has hope that there is a women out there for him and he will find her eventually.
A theme of Story is outlined throughout Scripture, the whole Bible is full of stories and is a story in itself. And the theme of hope is a great part of the Christian faith. Christian have faith and hope in God, Christ, His Word, and His plan for them and the world. In this generation finding hope is a huge deal. We put hope in our family, friends, a opportunity for a new job or promotion,  ect. But when we put our Hope and Faith in Christ and His word, we will never be let down. People and this world will let you down but Christ wont.

"How I Met Your Mother", Season 1, Ep. 6

In this Episode of "How I Met Your Mother", Ted waits at a roof top Halloween party for the fourth or fith year in a row. Four years ago he met this women who was dressed up as a pumpkin, he got her phone number but it was given way on accident. Marshall and Lilly were passing out candy and her phone number was on the back of a Kit Kat Bar. Everyone thinks Ted is a little silly for wanting to waste another Halloween waiting in hope that this women will return. But for Ted this gives him hope. He has hope that she will return and they will meet again because who knows, she could be 'the one'. While Marshall and Lily prepare to win a costume contest for 50 dollar gift cards. And Robin goes on a double date with her new boyfriend. While on their date with Marshall and Lily, it is obvious that Robin has a hard time with being in a relationship. She really likes him but cant let go to it just being her. While Barney antagonizes Ted to go with him to a Victoria Secrets Halloween party.
The main theme, which is a recurring theme, is the story theme. The whole show is based on Ted telling his kids how he met their mother. But within this episode there is a theme of hope and one of independance. Ted waits for the woman dressed up as a pumpkin again and has been for the past four years because it gives him hope. Hope that someone is out there that is just for him. It is a reminder to him that one day he will find 'the one'. And Robin struggles with giving up some of her independance in order to be in a relationship. She is used to doing things alone, like eating her own meal and not sharing her food, as shown in this episode.
I think that hope is something affirmed by scripture because we have hope that God loves us, that he sent his only Son to die for the sins of humanity, ect. On the other hand I think the concept of individualness and self-centeredness is not displayed in Scripture. Throughout Scripture we read about unity, community and sharing our lives with God and others.

"How I Met Your Mother" Season 1, Ep. 4

This Episode is titled "Return from the Shirt". Ted has an old shirt that hasn't been worn in years, and he decides to wear it as a symbol of the 'new'. Still in search for "the One", decides to give an ex-girlfriend a call and maybe start a relationship. Barney dares Robin to say funny random things for money, while on the air, reporting a News story. She does because she thinks no one ever watches the show, until she does does a news story where a old man thanks her for caring enough to want to tell his story. Marshall and Lily had differences in opinion on what Ted should do, whether or not he should contact his ex., and how to break up with her again. Ted realized that after his ex-girlfriend takes him back and they spend three good weeks together that she is not 'the one', so he breaks up with her again on her birthday.
The major themes that I have seen in this Episode is of course the theme of story, Ted tells his kids the story of how he met their mother, although these are just the stories of his life, that are eventually going to lead up to it. There is the theme of 'the One'. Ted is looking for love, marriage, and a family, but he feels that his 'girlfriend' is not the one so he is going to break up with her for the second time. In our world almost everyone looks for "the One", the person that God has made for them. And the theme of Truth. Ted tries his hardest to be truthful. Lily encourages Ted to be truthful with Natalie when he breaks up with her. Telling the truth can sometimes hurt but it is so important.
Biblically we are told to always be honest and tell the truth and that lying is a sin. Sometimes the truth may hurt the ones we love but out of that hurt comes growth. A year after Ted broke up with Natalie  she was married and went on to have three beautiful children. I would encourage telling the truth no matter what. People often say or encourage to tell the truth only if it isnt going to hurt someone we love, but telling the truth will set you free and you will grow and learn from your mistakes.

"How I Met You Mother", Season 1; Ep. 3

In this Episode, Ted and Barney's friendship becomes closer. Ted goes along with Barney's idea of trying to pick up girls at the airport, which leads them to follow two girls to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Meanwhile Lily and Robin have a "girls night out", where Robin gets hit on continuously throughout the night and brings out some of Lily's insecurities concerning her self-esteem/ appearance. And Marshall spends the whole night studying until he gets a call from Barney to come on the adventure, and meet him and Ted in PA. Ted and Barney's adventure leads them too kiss the Liberty Bell.
The major themes that I saw through out this Episode are Adventure, Story, and Jealousy. The theme of Adventure is seen through Ted and Barney's adventure to Philadelphia. Ted followed Barney on a whime to follow these two, thought to be "single women", and it turned out they got the opportunity to kiss the Liberty Bell which was probably never done before and "Legendary". The theme of Story, is found as the whole point of "How I Met Your Mother", but it is also emphasized in the cab ride home between Barney and Ted. Ted admits that in following Barney, he not only got to kiss the Liberty Bell but he got to create good memories with a friend and to be able to tells such a great story. Another theme I saw was Jealousy. When Lily and Robin are hanging out at the bar, Robin gets hit on by these guys and no one even notices Lily. She thinks it is because of her engagement ring, which she takes off because Marshall tells her it would be ok. Upon doing so, Marshall finds out when he talks to Robin. He goes to the bar and confronts the man Lily is talking to not knowing that he was not interested in her. Marshall lands up hugging the man and his partner acts Marshall because he is also jealous.
I think that, "How I Met Your Mother" is an good example of story telling. From a Christian perspective reahing the Bible should be like reading a story. The Gospel is the story of Jesus' life and ministry. Everyone has a story, a life story and in this generation story is important. People long to know other people, to relate to them and to get to know each other.

How i met your mother 1:2

I always heard about the show, "How I Met Your Mother" and never really watched it before. It is such a good show. After just the first episode it had me hooked. I love in the second episode how Ted throws three parties just so he could see "the love of his life" Robin. It reminds me how everyone is looking for love. That is the way God made us..we want to be in relationships whether it be family, friends, co-workers, ect .
